Philmont has been around ever since 1938 when it was founded by Waite Phillips. Philmont consists of 137,500 thousand acres located near Cimarron New Mexico. Every two years our troop gets around 15 to 20 people including adults and scouts to attend Philmont. Last year Troop 344 sent around 15 people to Philmont. The next time our troop is eligible will be in 2015. The journey to get to Philmont starts with a short train ride to Kansas city. Just about 4 and half hours from St. Louis to Kansas City. From Kansas City we then traveled to Raton New Mexico. That was the longest of the travels. It took around 14 hours. Once we got to Philmont we got to see really nice mountains. The next day we all left base camp and started to hike to our first camping location. This trip ended the same way it started. In the end we all made it. We all had gained new skills and improved on our other skills. The train ride back to St. Louis wasn’t as bad since we where all tired and just wanted to sleep.Over all Philmont was a great adventure and i think every one should try to go there. Philmont is something that i will never forget.
