Despite a Rainy Weekend, Troop 283 and Troop 344 made this Camporee Awesome!
In April from Friday the 23rd to Sunday the 25th , Troop 344 and troop 283 had a half camporee at Beaumont state reservation.. The real camporee was canceled, and when the members of 344 got to the site we found…one other troop. Despite this, we were able to make this trip a good one.
It rained all Saturday morning, as we ate pancakes and drank hot chocolate for breakfast. Throughout the morning, we did camporee activities such as a short orienteering course, building rope structures that had to support some of your patrol, and others, but by afternoon some of the troop had gone off in search of things to do. A bit of the troop went to a nearby playground, some played ultimate frisbee, and others tested their balance on a slackline. Troop 283 did an amazing job setting up a trebuchet activity, which was some people’s highlight of the trip! During this event, a football was loaded into the trebuchet and shot out as runners ran toward the ball. Whoever got the ball first won!
At the end of the night we had campfire, where people laughed along to “shaving cream” by the senior patrol, the “monk story” by Ethan and Patrick, and other wonderful skits before the solemn but meaningful retirement of U.S. flags in the fire.
All in all, the rain made many things hard for this trip, but with grit we got past it and it turned out to be a great outing.
