In March 2022, troop 344 took an outstanding excursion to Little Rock Arkansas, a trip that was action-packed for sure. When we got there after a long, tiring drive, we arrived at a visitor center located next to Little Rock Central High, the place where the Little Rock 9 made history during the Civil Rights movement. After taking a very powerful tour through the exhibit, we went to the place we would be staying the night; the USS Razorback, a WWII submarine docked on the Arkansas River. This was an amazing sight, and the excitement was only made better by the anticipation of sleeping aboard the old, majestic sub. Before we settled in however, we toured ourselves around the maritime museum on the dock, and before we knew it we were walking across the river and visiting interesting places in Little Rock. Scavenger hunts helped pass the time, even though it took us about 20 minutes to find a box that was sitting right in front of our eyes, but before long it was time for the tour of the sub. The guides took us in small groups through the sub, and we learned much of how the sub worked, and even got to see real torpedoes! After movie night (the submarine classic “The Hunt for Red October”) we were off to bed, which was not at all an easy feat to accomplish considering the ridiculously cramped sleeping quarters. When we woke up, we were met with the buzz of getting ready to hit the road, and a throbbing head from bonking myself on pipes above me wasn’t helping a bit. Despite all this, we were able to quickly have breakfast: delicious donuts, and pile into the cars, leaving behind a busy, cramped, but overall amazing experience.
