The single most awesome thing a person can do as a scout is participating in High Adventure. There is no thrill or challenge that can match it. The boundary waters is one such High Adventure trip, but this time, done through a private outfitter. There are so many amazing things about the trip it’s hard to know where to start. For starters, you don’t just see nature on the boundary waters, you become a part of it. The water is your road, your only source of hydration, and the source of your food as well. There is nothing as fun as wrestling with a giant bass for your dinner, and then winning your meal as a reward. You are truly on your own in, a very intimidating yet exciting feeling. Every challenge the wilderness puts forth your crew must overcome alone. This makes this trip one of the more physically challenging trips a scout could go on, but the payoff is much more rewarding as well. Even the tiny things had such a sense of accomplishment to them, like reaching each campsite every night. On top of this, the beauty of the lake can’t be understated. The trip is extremely challenging, strenous, and relentless, but it’s also one of the best experiences scouting has to offer.
