On the weekend of October 21st to 23rd we had a campout based on rock climbing and rappelling at the castle rock campsite. We got down to the ranch slightly later than usual on the night of the 21st and after a slightly strenuous time of setting up camp and helping the new scouts, we got everything up. We woke up early on the morning of the 22nd, we had a cold breakfast and got going. We met up in the parking lot and donned ropes and packs to take the hike over to the climbing area. After a mile or so walk we got to the climbing area, which held two routes, Chimney, and Collarbone. We all got to climb up one side, the scouts had a great time with it. Following the climb we ate lunch. We then went over to the rappelling area and most of the scouts got to go several times down the cliff, including some people who went face-first, or angel. We did this for several hours, playing cards during the times we weren’t going down. At around 3:00 we finished up, packed up all of the gear and after a few “false starts” by Mr. Stanton we returned to camp. We ate dinner, it was very good, then it was time for a campfire, but definitely not as enthusiastic as camporee. While the large fire was being built all of the new scouts got an opportunity to start their own, for a requirement. As is the rule when Mr. Stanton is at a scouting event there was rain, but the good thing was it was only a few drops. We relaxed by the fire while the younger scouts played cards. At around 10:30 we started to retire to our tents, and after dropping into our sleeping bags for the night, it was back to day, rising before the sun. Opposite to tradition we had a hot breakfast Sunday morning, and packed up camp. We made our goal of leaving by 9:30 and drove back to LMS. After getting everything set straight we returned home after quite the fun weekend.
