Sea Base is one of the 4 National High Adventure Bases, along with Summit Bechtel Reserve, Philmont, and Northern Tier. On Wednesday June 26, Crews CR062724-E and F including 12 scouts and 4 dads from Troop 344 traveled from St. Louis to Miami. Upon arrival, we drove to the Coral Reef Yacht Club for dinner. There was a pasta station where a chef would handmake your pasta.
The next day, we drove to Coopertown Airboat Tours. This was a trip highlight as we saw many animals, for example, Burmese pythons, alligators, and turtles, and got to go on an airboat and drift like a car through the Everglades. We arrived at Islamorada Fish Company for lunch, where we got to hand feed a group of tarpon in a pond connected to the ocean. Afterward, we checked in with Sea Base, and gathered necessary equipment such as flippers and PFD’s. Throughout the week, the two crews sailed to different spots around the Keys, like Alligator and Sombrero Reefs, to snorkel. This was another highlight since we saw various aquatic animals such as nurse sharks, stingrays, and a diverse variety of fish. There were many fun activities including fishing, learning how to steer, operating the sails, and doing anchor watch. Our favorite activity was snorkeling, where we saw many things we never could’ve seen in Missouri, and there were really cool reefs and shipwrecks. Even though some of us got a little seasickness, it was overshadowed by the great times we had. The crews really learned how to work together as a team, and at the end of the trip, we all felt closer as friends. If you have the chance, I strongly suggest going to Sea Base to experience the wonder of the sea and all it has to offer.
Sea Base, a National High Adventure Base, provided an unforgettable experience for Crews CR062724-E and F from Troop 344. From exploring the Everglades to snorkeling in the Keys, the trip was filled with exciting activities. Despite some seasickness, the crews bonded and learned valuable teamwork skills. It’s a highly recommended sea adventure.
