Troop 344 went on a cabin campout during the weekend of January 10, 2025 at Beaumont Scout Reservation. We were supposed to stay in the cabin both Friday and Saturday nights but earlier that week it snowed a lot and the manager of Camp Beaumont closed the camp until Saturday morning. The troop met on Saturday morning at LMS and drove to Beaumont to check into our cabin. After checking in and unpacking the trailer, we walked through the snow to the rifle range to shoot 22 rifles at targets. Most Scouts shot 25 rounds of ammo at 5 targets. Our instructor was Michael F.
We walked back to our cabin for lunch and then walked in the snow to the shotgun range. Many of us had never shot a shotgun before. Everyone was able to shoot at clay ‘birds’ at least three times, with 5-7 shots each time, and some as many as six times. After that some of us went back to the cabin, but some stayed and watched the teacher (Jake W.) shoot, then we all went back to the cabin and got situated, and got the buckets, tables, and all the stoves out to cook dinner. We ate dinner, cleaned up and sat around the fire waiting to go to bed. In the morning the troop woke up, packed up our stuff and put everything away in the trailer. We finished with ‘rose, thorn and bud’ and drove back to the middle school. It was fun.
